Alison F says the bird chatter was from house sparrows, and there are definitely lots around. We also had a rock sparrow (Petronia petronia) visit us up close while we were eating the following evening.
We travelled to our holiday via local train, Eurostar, TGV (all electric), then taxi. We use the same taxi driver each time, booked by email!
