Earth Notes: On Website Technicals (2026-11)

My MBA is this morning showing consumption <2W with a fairly dim screen (1.6W as I type this in vi).

Lite pages diet stampede

One way to lighten EOU m-dot pages further would be to remove from the header the twitter:card and og:image tags.

That makes the 'lite' page HTML itself a little smaller. But also when such pages are linked from Mastodon posts (as for the EOU feed in winter) there is no image prefetch to do during the prefetch stampede, which halves the number of requests and likely more than halves bytes shipped.

That required a couple of lines of change to the build script. Actual page rebuilding may be slow to happen because of gloomy days thus (very) low battery levels...

AdSense complained that I had not created any ad impressions for 5 months (which I do not think is right from looking at the stats), and that my account might get shut down, so I have temporarily turned AdSense on again for EOU to quiet it.
